
Fitness test performed in the field are seen to be more valid as the tests performed are more specific to the sport (Balsom, 1994). Although this increase in specific nature is good for you as coaches it is important to remember that no field test will determined performance within in match-play, as isolating the individual physical parameters in a complex sport like football is difficult (Svensson & Drust, 2005). Therefore, it may be good to use these tests are regular intervals throughout the season to keep a track of players general fitness levels when time is limited, and your concentration will be on competition.
